Make-it: Quick and Easy No-Sew Pillow Cover

Hi Lovelies,

Well, it’s Tuesday and I’m making something. I fear that “Make-it Monday” may soon lose it’s moniker. Nevertheless, I stumbled upon this Pinterest post earlier, and knew that I had to try this one, too. Long ago, I bought a “bed in a bag” which included a grey throw pillow that I thought I would never use in 1,000 years. You see, I’m quite the “violent” sleeper. I’m not sure why, but on more than one occasion I’ve awaken in the morning with the bed completely stripped of all blankets and pillows. In fact, my roommate loves to recall the time I apparently stood up in the middle of the night and threw all of my bed linens and pillows into the hallway, as if I were absolutely furious. Of course, I don’t remember a thing – but you get the idea.

Anywho, I’ve had a really cute piece of Riley Blake fabric hidden in my stash for a long time. It’s from the “Witch Hazel” range, and it’s absolutely adorable. Challenge accepted.

Project precautions: Um, I’m not even sure I can think of any. Seriously – no scissors, no sewing, no heat. Wait! I’ve got one! When you’re tying the knot in the pillow, be careful not to get your finger stuck in the bow like they do on TV. I think I remember this one time when Uncle Jessie got his hand stuck in a present on Full House. Oh, that John Stamos – lol.

This is seriously all you need.

Stick the pillow in the middle of the fabric.

Fold up the bottom.

Fold down the top.

Fold the top seam under so you don’t see the frayed bits of the fabric.

Bring the ends together like you’re wrapping a present.

Pull it just like you do when you start to tie a shoe.

My fabric wasn’t long enough, so I ended up just tucking my ends under and securing them with an anchor stitch (BUT YOU SAID NO SEWING!!). If you fabric is longer you can tie a full knot and wrap the ends around the middle to make the whole thing look like a cute little bow-tie in the original pin. Have you checked out the original pin yet? What are you waiting for?! Go check it out!

I don’t know about you, but I seriously think this is pretty cute.

  1. Wow. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Got some incredible fabric super cheap at a yard sale. I bought the pillow form and some binding tape but this might be even better. Thank you.

    1. I can never get enough cheap fabric!! 🙂 The great thing about this is that, if you don’t like it – all you have to do is untie it! 🙂

  2. Hi there!

  3. Wow, I have a pillow form and have been wondering when I’d have time to sew a cover. This is too easy. I could see tying it sort of decorative too or maybe getting a cool pin to pin it. I may have a pillow sooner than I think.

    1. Awesome! I was thinking that the pillow would be seriously cute if I were to put a button in the middle of the center bow. The great thing about this is that, if you don’t like it – you can just untie it 🙂
