Over the past few weeks, I’ve really wanted to experiment with storing tulips in my spare fridge to make the harvest last longer. So far, I’ve had a lot of success in doing so. I’m I’ll make a post about it eventually. For now, however, I wanted to make another flower arrangement featuring our awesome tulips.
I love tulips for a lot of reasons. They’re just so easy. Sometimes the weather can impact them, but in general, I can count on the blooms to be showy and beautiful. These La Vie tulips were no exception to this. Though they were much, much darker than the photo in the catalog; I was really pleased with their vibrancy.
The tulips in this post has been in cold storage for right around two weeks. They still look fresh, but I can definitely tell that they were harvested recently. I’m sure that the results would be better if I had access to actual cold storage, rather than a 1970s fridge.
I’m not sure why I took so many pictures….
For this arrangement, I wanted to create a fresh spring vibe. Fortunately, some bright yellow single tulips had burst open. When I saw their canary color, I knew that I had to use them! I think I might want to plant more yellow flowers in the future. These tulips made me feel really content.
It isn’t much, but was very much worthy of a place of display. The tulips from cold storage easily lasted another week in the vase.
I’m also continuing to experiment with using my bolted collard greens as foliage in arrangements. These little yellow flower clusters lasted three days before wilting and falling from the plant. Interestingly, the unopened green buds – opened in the vase!
This is so pretty! I love yellow flowers, too.
