Steven David Dahlia: A Unique Red Option for the Dahlia Garden

I’m not naturally drawn to red or yellow dahlias. So, imagine my surprise when I received a Steven David dahlia tuber as a free gift in one of my tuber orders that I made this year. Since I’d never turn down the opportunity to grow a new variety, I planted it immediately.

My Steven David dahlia doesn’t look anything like the photos that I’ve seen online. While others are much more red, mine tend to have equal amounts of both red and yellow parts. It has proven itself to be a prolific bloomer, and I have really enjoyed watching the various patterns on the petals develop.

Even though the bees have really loved them, I’m not so sure that they have won me over. Though they aren’t one of my favorites, I’m sure someone out there will adore these – I know that the honey bees really enjoy visiting! What do you think? Have you ever grown the Steven David dahlia before? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below. I hope you’re having an amazing day!
