The First Freeze of the Season

We recently had our first freeze of the season. In typical Kentucky weather fashion, we just went ahead and skipped the “first frost” and went right to the frigid part that totally kills everything. Of course, I couldn’t resist going out into the cold and taking a few pictures.

Even though I absolutely despise cold weather, I always think that ice crystals are so pretty.

The dahlia patch looks so sad now. The dahlias grew so well this year, but I know that I need to take them out and make room for more flowers and for new crops – still, it’s bittersweet.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be waiting patiently to beginning digging and storing the dahlia tubers. I’ll also begin to collect some of the seed pods so that we can grow dahlias from seed next year.

Has your garden been hit by the fall freeze yet? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below. I hope you’re having a wonderful day!
