‘Amazing Parrot’ Tulips Are Not What I Expected… (‘Dee Jay Parrot’ Tulips)

EDIT: These mystery tulip bulbs have since been identified. These are ‘Dee Jay Parrot’ tulips. I didn’t order them, but they’re still pretty nice. Thanks!

Every once and awhile in the garden, it seems that I run into an imposter. I fear that this may be the case with last year’s planting of ‘Amazing Parrot’ tulips. Either that, or they really look nothing like the catalog would suggest.

I first ordered ‘Amazing Parrot’ tulip bulbs when I was drawn in with the promise of beautiful pink-red blooms with orange edging. In the catalog, I love the intensity of the frayed petals, which has made parrot tulips so popular. Imagine my surprise when the flowers opening in my own garden looked absolutely nothing like the photos that I had seen online.

Though completely different than what I had anticipated, these tulips are quite lovely and do have their own merit. The colors are bright and vibrant and the stems were very tall and strong. Overall, they are a nice tulip for cut flower arrangements. My biggest complaint was the color, and that is very much just a matter of personal preference.

Have you ever grown ‘Amazing Parrot’ tulip before? Do these photo look like the correct variety? Can anyone help me to identify this possible mystery tulip? I’d love to hear all about your experiences in the comment section below. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog!
