‘Exotic Emperor’ Double Tulips: Another Case of Mislabeled Bulbs

When I planted the tulip bulbs last year, I was very careful to make certain that each variety was labeled correctly. I’ve never been the most organized person, so I knew that I would need to pay special attention. These tulips were labeled ‘Green Wave.’ Imagine my surprise when ‘Exotic Emperor’ tulips started to open instead. Still, I’m not disappointed.

The ‘Exotic Emperor’ tulips were among the first tulips to begin blooming in the garden. With the first warm day, they burst open. As you can see from the photo above, the flowers actually have quite a bit of depth. While the petals are a pure white, they each have interesting green outer bits – yes, I realize that isn’t their technical name.

‘Exotic Emperor’ tulips also did really well in flower arrangements and had a wonderful vase life. They are definitely a variety that I would like to grow again in the cut flower garden. What do you think? Have you ever grown ‘Exotic Emperor’ tulips before? If so, I’d love to hear all about your experiences in the comment section below. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog!

  1. Those are beautiful! I love how bright the white looks against the vivid green. So fresh and clean.
