In Bloom: ‘Akebono’ Double Tulips

I had been wanting to try growing ‘Akebono’ tulips for years. For whatever reason, they never seemed to make my ‘final list’ when the time to order came. It is for this reason, that I was really eager to seem them open this spring.

Though most of the photos that I’ve seen online show ‘Akebono’ tulip as a soft shade of pastel yellow, most of mine were very bright. It wasn’t until I allowed the tulips to open and spend a few days in the garden that I started to see the more subdued color. ‘Akebono’ tulips also have a very pretty red accent on each petal.

‘Akebono’ grew very tall and maintained strong stems for over a week before I finally picked them for a vase. While they aren’t one of my personal favorites, a few visitors to my backyard have noticed their beauty and commented on it. I would definitely consider growing ‘Akebono’ tulips again in the future.

What do you think? Have you ever grown ‘Akebono’ tulips before? If so, I’d love to hear all about your experiences in the comment section below. Thank you so much for visiting the blog!
