‘Avignon Parrot’ Tulips: Enormous Blooms!

Sometimes, photographing all of the flowers in the garden can be difficult. The weather simply would not cooperate this year when picking many of the tulips, and the ‘Avignon Parrot’ tulips were no exception. As you can see from the photo above, the heavy rains had really made a mess of several late season tulips. Still, I was determined to show these massive flowers!

‘Avignon Parrot’ tulips are easily the largest parrot tulip that I’ve ever grown. While I usually love huge flowers, the size actually became problematic. Even before the blooms opened, the stems swayed, bent, and broke.

Though a beautiful addition to the ornamental garden, it is highly unlikely that I will grow ‘Avignon Parrot’ again in the cutting garden. What do you think? Have you ever grown ‘Avignon Parrot’ tulip? If so, I’d love to hear all about your experiences in the comment section below. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog!
