After trying to grow freesia over the past couple seasons, I’ll admit that I had started to feel very discouraged. My sites suggest that freesia bulbs are hardy to zone 8, but I quickly found that my zone 6 garden warmed much too quickly in the spring for early planting. When my freesia bulb order arrived very late last fall, I was quite discouraged.
When I opened my package in December, I dug a small hole in the hoop house and tossed the bulbs in. So late in the year, I was certain that this experiment would be yet another failure. To my surprise, the plants’ foliage began to emerge in late winter and grew well until they bloomed in the first week of June!
I was so happy to see these beautiful pink and white flowers! They’re also insanely fragrant. I can’t wait until I am able to try growing more freesia in future. Have you ever had success with freesia? If so, I would love to hear all about it in the comment section below. Thank you so much for visiting the blog!
