In Bloom: ‘Popeye’ Daffodil

In my ever constant quest to expand the collection of fancy daffodils growing in my yard, I was more than excited to find a pack of ‘Popeye’ daffodils at my local garden center.

‘Popeye’ daffodils are very similar to ‘Art Design’ daffodils, which can also be found here on the blog. Rather than being yellow, ‘Popeye’ is white with a fully double inner cup. As the flowers age, this inner cup continues to open and expand. This characteristic makes it a good choice for growers looking to add big visual impact to the yard.

I was delighted to find that the ‘Popeye’ daffodils were also lightly scented. Though the fragrance is difficult to describe, I think it borders on quite a sweet aroma. Unlike some other types, I only really noticed the scent when I was cutting the flowers. Unfortunately, the fragrance throughout the garden was very minimal.

Overall, I’m more than pleased with the addition of ‘Popeye’ daffodils this year. Have you ever grown this variety before? If so, I’d love to hear all about your experiences in the comments below. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the blog. I hope that you’re having a really great day!
