Today, my first-ever trial of sunflowers continues. ‘Starburst Lemon Aura’ sunflowers were one which I had been eager to grow. Since I had purchased the seeds several years ago, the germination rate of my packet was relatively low. Still, I had more than enough plants to get a good feel for their growth habit and overall appearance.
My plants were relatively short, as I had allowed them to remain in their seed trays for much too long. As you can see, the unique blooms open in a lovely pale shade of yellow.
Though I prefer this shade of yellow in the early season garden, it appears that the bugs do, as well. These pale flowers are really prone to insect damage, so I found that I needed to pick them quickly – often, before they had completely opened.
Overall, I think that these flowers were a great addition to the sunflower patch. I would love to try growing them again.
What do you think? Have you ever grown ‘Starburst Lemon Aura’ sunflower before? I’d love to hear all about your experiences down in the comments below. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the blog!
